What ൜ means
It means one tenth. In traditional Malayalam arithmetic, ൜ is one mark in a named fraction system used for calculation and measurement.
Kaṇakkatikāram is a tradition of elementary math treatises on measurement, calculation, and practical problems. A 2024 study discusses an 1863 printed edition and varied Malayalam manuscripts; a 1980 survey reproduces the fraction set. The Tamil treatise is tentatively dated to the 15th century, a date for that text, not this sign.

Questions people ask
1Why does ൜ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
