What 𑲄 means

Use a Unicode input method that accepts U11C84.

If your keyboard layout has no Marchen keys, enter the character through a Unicode input method. Choose a font with Marchen shaping support; otherwise it may appear as a box or its stacked parts may assemble incorrectly.

What does Marchen letter dza mean?

It is a consonant letter used to write words.

Marchen belongs to the Mar script tradition associated with Bön. It was used to write Zhang-zhung, a language no longer spoken. A 2013 Unicode proposal describes Marchen in modern Bön literature, architectural inscriptions, and some Tibetan writing. Other Bön scripts in the same tradition include Marchung, Pungchen, Pungchung, and Drusha. Greater Mar forms combine Tibetan-style letter heads with influence from Nāgarī, an Indic script tradition.

Bön accounts place the Mar scripts in Zhang-zhung before Buddhism reached Tibet in the 7th century. Early written evidence is sparse: the 2013-10-22 encoding proposal reported no early Marchen texts and pointed to a bronze seal at Menri Monastery as one of the earliest examples; the seal’s date and where it came from are uncertain.

Why does Marchen letter dza show as a box?

A blank box usually means the font lacks Marchen support.

Marchen needs shaping for stacked writing: subjoined consonants and vowel signs sit around a base letter, so vertical stacks can change how the parts fit together. A font without Marchen shaping support may show a box or assemble the stack incorrectly.

Unlike Tibetan writing, Marchen does not use tsheg, a small mark that separates syllables, so syllable boundaries can be harder to spot. Marchen fonts also preserve angular and rounded calligraphic styles.

A missing box or broken stack points to font or shaping support, not a different letter.

Why does 𑲄 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Marchen block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
