What 𝓚 means
It is a distinct math letter, not simply heavier type.
Mathematicians use script (calligraphic, cursive-like) capitals to label operations, functions, or transforms—operations that change one mathematical object into another. The formula tells you which role the author gives 𝓚.
The style was used in mathematical typesetting before it became a separate character. A publisher-led font project called STIX (Scientific and Technical Information Exchange) began in 1995 to gather scientific and math glyphs. The American Mathematical Society joined in 1997 to sponsor complete mathematical alphabets for Unicode. Unicode accepted the proposal in 1999 so plain-text formulas could preserve styles that change a letter's mathematical meaning.
Why does 𝓚 look different across fonts?
Math fonts draw calligraphic letters in different hands.
In Unicode 18.0 charts, script letters appear in roundhand, a flowing pen style; Cambria Math and STIX Two Math default to chancery, a more formal calligraphic style. Regular script capitals can take a variation selector—an extra code that requests one shape—but the bold script alphabet has no such selector, so 𝓚 follows the math font's default.

1Questions people ask
1Does 𝓚 turn into K in search?
Sometimes. NFKC, a Unicode normalization form, maps 𝓚 to plain K; a search that compares raw characters can still treat them as different.
