What 𝙻 means
It is a math-style capital L; the formula gives it meaning.
Math styles distinguish variables. The 1998 Unicode proposal included monospace Latin letters to preserve distinctions in plain-text formulas. Unicode intends this alphabet for math and technical text, not ordinary styling.
NFKC text cleanup folds compatible characters together, so it can turn 𝙻 into plain L. The font determines the exact shape.

1Why does 𝙻 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
