What 𝒜 means
The formula decides what a mathcal A denotes. The capital A had shifting jobs in algebra: in 1544, Michael Stifel used it for values to find; in 1591, François Viète used vowels such as A for unknown values and consonants for known quantities. A 1999 Unicode proposal called for separate math-style characters because style can distinguish symbols in plain text.
Mathematical in formulas; decorative in names and messages.
Text normalization with NFKC or NFKD can flatten it to plain A, erasing a formula distinction.

1Why does 𝒜 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
