What 𝒱 means
Use \mathcal{V}; \mathscr{V} needs a script-capable setup.
MathJax accepts \mathscr; in LaTeX, load the mathrsfs package. Either command requests a script-style letter, while the font determines its exact strokes.
What does 𝒱 mean?
The surrounding formula or definition tells you what 𝒱 names.
Calligraphic capitals commonly label sets, but 𝒱 has no fixed meaning by itself; the text defines which set or object it names.
Letters labeled geometric points in ancient Greek mathematics by around 440 BCE. A 1998 Unicode proposal kept mathematical styles distinct because they can denote different things. Unicode 16.0 also describes playful use of these styled letters on social media when rich-text formatting is unavailable.
Mathematical notation first; outside equations, the letter may be decorative.
Do not apply NFKC or NFKD to formulas: they can flatten 𝒱 to plain V and erase the style distinction.

Because fonts choose different script variants. Unicode 16.0 describes roundhand, the chart’s more upright shape, and chancery, a more cursive style used by Cambria Math and STIX Two Math by default.
