What 𖼉 means
It marks a syllable’s opening consonant.
Vowel marks finish the syllable; their position or a separate tone letter shows tone, the pitch pattern that can distinguish words.
Why was the Miao script created?
To help A-Hmao speakers read their own language.
Development began in 1904 with Samuel Pollard and local Miao collaborators. The design drew on Latin letter forms, English shorthand (fast-writing signs), Miao picture-like forms, and Cree syllabics, a writing system used for Cree languages in Canada. Bible translation and teaching helped it spread.
Around 1904, some A-Hmao Christians read the new writing as a recovery of ancestral books lost in a river. Reforms in the 1950s changed tone marking; later, the script served other Miao varieties and some Yi and Lisu languages.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𖼉 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Miao block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𖼉\16F09Why is 𖼉 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
