What ᴳ means
In UPA, its raised form marks a very brief g sound.
UPA, also called Finno-Ugric transcription (FUT), first appeared in print in 1901, published by Finnish linguist Eemil Nestor Setälä. It records Uralic speech sounds and is also used for Turkic and Mongolic languages.
UPA uses superscripts for very brief sounds, small capitals for partial voicing (voice present for only part of a sound), and subscripts for side articulation (air along the tongue’s sides). Generic superscript styling of G changes its appearance, not its phonetic role.

1Why does ᴳ show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Phonetic Extensions block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
