What ᴷ means
It marks a very short k-like sound in Uralic phonetic notation.
The Uralic Phonetic Alphabet (UPA) is a shared way linguists write sounds while comparing languages. Its first published proposal appeared in the journal Finnisch-Ugrische Forschungen on March 14, 1901. In this notation, a superscript letter signals a very short sound; ᴷ is the capital-shaped modifier in the k series.
UPA later appeared in work on Indo-European, Turkic, and other languages as well as Uralic ones. Despite its name, it is a linguistic transcription system, not a universal alphabet for every speech sound.
How do I type the exact ᴷ?
Use a Unicode input method that inserts the character itself.
Rich-text superscript changes the appearance of an ordinary K; it does not turn that letter into ᴷ. The two can look similar while carrying different text values.
How is ᴷ different from ᵏ?
They are separate characters with different shapes and roles.
ᵏ is the small modifier k. Both forms sit high, but ᵏ is not this capital-shaped modifier. An ordinary K remains a different character even when rich-text formatting raises it.
Specialist phonetic notation; ᴷ signals a linguistic transcription context.
A superscript-styled K may look right but remains an ordinary K in plain text.

1Does changing letter case change ᴷ?
No. “Capital” describes its letter shape, not an uppercase instruction; modifier letters used in phonetic notation are unchanged by case conversion.
