What 𑊧 means
It marks Multani’s curled-back-tongue r consonant.
That tongue position is called retroflex. The letter belongs inside a Multani word. In Arabic-derived Saraiki spelling, ڑ is the corresponding letter: it serves the same role in that spelling system but is a different character.
How did Multani Rra enter print?
It grew from Landa writing into print.
Multani grew from Landa, a family of scripts used for practical writing and trade. Around Multan and northern Sindh, people used it for routine records and commercial work. In historical Multani, no single standard glyph was fixed; printed and handwritten forms vary. An 1819 printed Multani New Testament includes Rra in a comparison table. That is an attested example, not the letter’s birth date.
The Baptist Missionary Press made metal type for Multani, bringing the script into Christian literature and print. Multani is related to Gurmukhi and more distantly to Khudawadi and Khojki. As of 2026, Saraiki is written in an Arabic-derived script; Multani is encountered mainly in historical or digital contexts.

1Why does 𑊧 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
