What ꩵ means
Use the full tone-marked form.
ꩵႈ is the negative form, ꩵႉ the giving form, and ꩵး the yes form. The attached tone mark completes the spelling; bare ꩵ does not choose among these readings.
Where did the Lik Tai script develop?
Lik Tai writing developed in Moeng Maw.
It developed between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries, probably adapting Burmese writing used in Pagan to record everyday Tai languages. A written reference dates to 1396, and the earliest surviving example dates to 1407; both dates concern Lik Tai, not ꩵ. Khamti is historically related to Shan, Tai Le, Aiton, Phake, and Ahom writing traditions. Older Khamti left tones unmarked; later revisions marked them explicitly. An Indian revision from the 1990s had limited popularity, and Myanmar adopted a newer version during the script's revival.
