What 𑐏 means

𑐏 is Newa kha: a k released with a sharp breath. That extra breath is called aspiration. Newa writing records the Newa language, also called Nepal Bhasa, and Sanskrit.

Prachalit vs Ranjana: what changed?

Newa script developed locally from Brahmi, an older Indian script, through northern Gupta forms. It was used to write the Newa language and Sanskrit in manuscripts, inscriptions, coins, and administrative records. Written forms range from older manuscript hands to modern Prachalit.

Bhujinmol and Ranjana developed from the pācumola model in the 11th century; pācumola was a letterform style. Prachalit became the practical style for everyday writing, while Ranjana took an ornate role in Buddhist display beyond Nepal.

After the 1905 ban on Newa script, Devanagari increasingly replaced it in public writing. As of 2026, teaching, signage, digital publishing, and manuscript digitization are supporting renewed language and heritage work. Older manuscript hands can look unfamiliar beside modern writing, with differences in handwriting and spelling.

How do I type Newa kha?

Use a Unicode Newa keyboard for reliable text. Enter vowel signs after the consonant in logical text order, even when shaping displays them before or around it. Put a virama—the mark that suppresses a consonant’s built-in vowel—between consonants to form a cluster; shaping software may fuse them. Where supported, an invisible zero-width joiner after the virama requests a half-form, a consonant shape without its full form.

Questions people ask

2

Why does Newa kha show as a font box?

Your font likely lacks Newa glyphs. The character’s appearance depends on font support; choose a font that includes Newa.

Why does 𑐏 join another letter?

That is normal conjunct shaping. A virama cancels the consonant’s built-in vowel; text shaping may then fuse the consonants into one displayed form.
