What 𛆘 means
It writes one syllable, not one fixed word.
The Jiangyong reading is written tcyu21; context separates linked words such as 嘴 (“mouth”) and 句 (“sentence”).
How was Nüshu used?
Nüshu let rural women write local speech and share stories.
Nüshu developed among rural women in Jiangyong, Hunan, adapting Chinese-character forms to local speech. Its earliest known artifact is a Taiping coin from 1851–1864; its motto calls women one family. The first cited documentary record is a 1933 Hunan survey.
Women with little schooling used it for letters, life stories, songs, and wedding messages. Historically, women sang Nüshu texts while sewing. Few fluent writers remained by the late twentieth century; heritage programs preserve and teach it as of 2025.

1Why does 𛆘 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
