What 𛇃 means
Type njy33 in Rime’s Nüshu input method. This is Jiangyong romanization, a Latin-letter way to write the local speech.
What does 𛇃 represent?
It marks a spoken syllable in Jiangyong, not one fixed word. Nüshu is a script for local speech in Hunan, China; its forms adapt Chinese characters, and one sign can represent several similarly sounding words.
Nüshu let women in Jiangyong write local speech; many could not write Chinese characters. They used it for songs, letters and San Chao Shu (“third-day books”), wedding booklets shared among close women friends. Its origins are uncertain: a legend places it in the Song era (960–1279), but the earliest known object is an inscription on a Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coin (1851–1864), found in Nanjing; its first cited documentary record is a 1933 Hunan survey. By 2018, preservation work and performances had brought the script to public audiences.

1Why does 𛇃 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
