What 𛈯 means
It writes a syllable, not one fixed word.
The 2026 Unicode source file lists tsai13; a 2012 report labels the same sign TSHEW5. Neither is an English gloss. Nüshu syllables can represent several words that sound alike, so the surrounding sentence supplies the meaning.
How was Nüshu used?
It let local women write their spoken language.
Historically, women in Jiangyong adapted Chinese character forms to write local speech. They used Nüshu for songs, letters, autobiographies and wedding books given to brides three days after marriage.
A 2008 proposal names an 1850s coin die as the earliest mention its authors found, and a local chronicle from 1931 as the earliest text. By 2025, preservation efforts were also reviving Nüshu as heritage.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛈯 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
