What 𛉹 means
It records a syllable; the surrounding text supplies its word.
The digits in leng42 mark tone, a pitch pattern in speech. Nüshu signs normally record spoken syllables; one sign may match several same-sounding words. Nüshu adapted Chinese Han characters (the standard written Chinese forms) to record local Jiangyong speech, including for women with limited literacy in that system.
A 1931 Hunan survey describes women singing from written fans at a May ritual. A “third-day letter” was a booklet of good wishes that friends gave a bride three days after her wedding. As primary schooling spread through the 1930s, Nüshu's traditional transmission weakened; by 2025, local and national authorities were working to preserve and revive it as heritage.

1Why does 𛉹 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
