What 𛊁 means
It represents a spoken syllable, not a full word.
A representative Jiangyong-dialect reading is cing42, a sound notation rather than an English meaning. Nüshu signs can represent words pronounced alike, so context supplies the word. The forms draw on Chinese characters, but this sign has no exact Chinese-character equivalent.
What did women write in Nüshu?
Letters, life stories, songs and wedding booklets.
Women wrote autobiographies, letters between sworn sisters and folk songs. Friends gave brides sanzhaoshu (“third-day letters”): booklets carrying good wishes three days after their wedding.
Origins are disputed, from ancient roots to later Chinese-calligraphy development. The oldest known artifact is a bronze coin from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, a rebel state (1851–1864); the earliest account is a Hunan survey written in 1931 and published in 1933. By 2021, scholars also studied Nüshu's transmission as cultural heritage.

1Why does 𛊁 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
