What 𛋂 means
It is the Nüshu syllable kau44, not a full word.
The digits mark tone. One Nüshu syllable may fit several homophones; its sentence identifies the intended word.
What was Nüshu used for?
It gave Jiangyong women a way to write local speech.
Many women had little access to Chinese-character schooling. Nüshu (“women’s writing”) adapts Chinese forms to Jiangyong speech. Women wrote biographies, sworn-sister letters and songs, and wedding sanzhaoshu (“third-day books”), given to brides three days later; they sang texts while sewing.
Nüshu developed among rural Jiangyong women in the nineteenth century. Its oldest known object is a Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coin (1851–1864), engraved with women’s solidarity. By 2025, local and national efforts were reviving it as public heritage.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛋂 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Nushu block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
