What 𛋨 means
A local syllable, not one fixed word.
Unicode’s Nüshu data lists the pronunciation as tsou42: Latin letters plus a tone number, not an English translation. One sign can represent several words that sound alike; the sentence around it shows which local word is intended.
What was Nüshu used for?
It recorded local speech in women’s writing.
Nüshu developed around Jiangyong County, Hunan, China. Research links its shapes to adapted Chinese characters and local forms. A 2015 study suggests some may connect to “mosquito-shaped writing” recorded among Yao, an ethnic group in the region. Some anonymous text copies are dated as far back as China’s late Ming or early Qing dynasties. Traditional text runs vertically in columns from right to left.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛋨 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Nushu block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𛋨\1B2E8Why is 𛋨 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
