What 𛋳 means
It writes a spoken syllable, not one fixed word.
The Nüshu list transcribes its Jiangyong reading as “tsiang42”; several Hanzi (Chinese characters) share it, so context picks the word.
Nüshu grew from women’s shared writing
Women in Jiangyong used it for letters to sworn sisters (close friends bound as kin), songs, biographies and “third-day books”—wedding wishes given to brides three days after marriage. It grew through shared practice and adapted Chinese characters to local speech, offering another route where formal schooling was limited. A bronze coin from the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (1851–1864) is its earliest known artifact; the first documentary notice appears in a Hunan survey of 1933. In 2025, UNESCO described Nüshu as endangered heritage and reported revival work.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𛋳 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Nushu block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

𛋳\1B2F3Why is 𛋳 a box on my screen?
fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
