Occultation

🝵 is an occultation symbol: one celestial body hides another. Astrology-calendar examples from 2018–2021 use it for eclipses, despite its place in Unicode’s Alchemical Symbols block.

Text symbol

What 🝵 means

One body hides another from the viewer. A solar eclipse is one case; the Moon can also hide a planet.

Why does this symbol show as a box?

The app’s font may lack the glyph. A blank or replacement box is a font issue, not a different symbol. Unicode’s 2022 proposal says the eclipse signs were not intended as emoji.

It can mark the Moon hiding a planet, not just the Sun.

Why does 🝵 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
