What ᱾ means
It is the prose sentence stop.
Called mucaad, this is the main sentence delimiter in Ol Chiki writing. It does the job of a period with a shape made for this script.
As of 2026, Lexilogos's online Santali keyboard maps . to ᱾ and .. to ᱿; other Ol Chiki layouts may assign different keys.
Why not use a normal period?
A regular period's dot can look like an Ol Chiki vowel sign.
Ol Chiki uses some punctuation shared with Latin writing, but avoids the ordinary period because its dot can be mistaken for the script's dot-shaped vowel mark. Mucaad gives the sentence boundary its own shape.
Some South Asian scripts use the danda (।) as a sentence ender too. That is a functional parallel, not evidence of historical descent.
Who created Ol Chiki?
Raghunath Murmu devised it for Santali.
Ol Chiki was devised in 1925 to give Santali a dedicated writing system, rather than relying on the Latin, Bengali, Devanagari, or Odia scripts.
Murmu's early notes and letters printed from carved wooden blocks show the script taking shape. His book Hor Sereng was printed in 1936, and he demonstrated Ol Chiki publicly in 1939.

It can be a spacing choice: proposal examples place a space before the mark, while a 2016 typography paper records feedback on its distance from the final letter.
