What 𐒩 means
It is the digit nine in Osmanya, a writing system for Somali. Osman Yusuf Kenadid devised Osmanya in 1920–1922 because Arabic-based spelling could not represent some Somali sounds.
Early Osmanya writing included private letters. After World War II, the Somali Youth League promoted it as a national script. Osmanya followed Arabic-based Somali writing attempts and later gave way to the Latin orthography selected in 1972; the digit stayed nine while the script’s public role changed.
