What ⎞ means
⎞ is one segment in a larger delimiter. For a large math delimiter that spans several lines, it joins the middle and lower pieces. Compatible font pieces align as one fence; enlarging the usual ) does not preserve their proportions.
A 1998 Unicode proposal notes that TeX, PostScript, HP Math8, Microsoft Symbol, DEC terminals and related software already used these pieces. They let word processors assemble large parentheses, brackets, braces and integral signs for mathematical layouts. A 2000 guide to Beta Code, a system for entering Greek text, also documents the three-piece right-parenthesis set.

1Why does ⎞ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
