⎠ is the bottom-right piece of a tall mathematical right parenthesis. It joins at the top; insert segments between them when more height is needed. Alone, it does not close an expression.

It forms the bottom of a tall closing parenthesis. Place at the top and ⎠ at the bottom; add in the middle for extra height.

Why does ⎠ show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
