What 𝪟 means
It selects a fill variant for a SignWriting base.
Sutton SignWriting is a way to write signed languages. After a compatible handshape such as , 𝪟 selects the sixth fill variant. For some handshapes, the fill shows palm orientation; other base symbols use fills to distinguish their shape or visual organization.
The writing system predates this character. DanceWriting began in 1966 as a way to record dance movement. SignWriting developed in 1974 after Danish sign-language researchers requested an adaptation for signed languages. Unicode added the character in 2015; that date marks its encoding, not the writing system’s origin.
How do I use 𝪟 in a sequence?
Place it after a compatible base in a SignWriting sequence.
𝪟 is a nonspacing combining mark: it modifies the base before it. If the sequence also has a rotation modifier, the fill comes first. On its own, the mark has no base to change.
A Unicode sequence does not lay out SignWriting symbols on the page; the writing system also needs two-dimensional placement. A suitable font must draw the character, and a SignWriting-aware editor must arrange the symbols. Without that support, 𝪟 may appear blank, as a fallback mark, or as a box.
A technical SignWriting mark whose meaning depends on the base it modifies.
Alone, it does not mean “fill six” to a reader.

2Questions people ask
1Why does 𝪟 look blank or broken?
A font or sequence issue is the likely cause. 𝪟 is a nonspacing mark, so a renderer may show it only with a compatible base; an unsupported font may show a fallback box or no useful mark.
