What 𝢉 means
It tells you the handshape used in a sign.
The drawing is a schematic hand, not a picture of an object. Its lines identify a particular finger configuration. SignWriting combines hand symbols with information about movement, location and facial expression to record visible features of signing.
The symbols are arranged in two dimensions: their positions relative to one another matter. Fill and rotation distinguish forms of a hand symbol, conveying palm orientation and hand direction, including left- and right-hand forms. Rotations use 45-degree steps. This single character therefore does not give you a complete sign to translate.
Can SignWriting write different sign languages?
Yes. It is a writing system, not a separate language.
Sign languages have their own vocabularies and grammar. SignWriting records how their signs are made; using the same handshape does not make two signs mean the same thing.
Valerie Sutton developed SignWriting in Copenhagen in 1974, drawing on her work on movement notation, including dance. That origin helps explain its visual approach: it records the hands, body and face rather than spelling out spoken-language words.

2Questions people ask
1Why do I see a box instead of the symbol?
Your font or app may not support this character. Displaying it requires a font with Sutton SignWriting support; composing a complete sign also requires handling its spatial layout.
