Superscript Six

It can be an exponent or a note marker. In 2⁶, it tells you to multiply 2 by itself six times.

Superscript styling is the broader convention. Unicode keeps ⁶ for older character sets. Since it is not an ordinary decimal digit, a basic number-reading program can distinguish 2⁶ from 26.

Is ⁶ a character or formatting?

⁶ is a character; formatting raises an ordinary 6. A web page can use HTML’s ^{tag to raise text; rich-text editors offer similar formatting. Unicode recommends styling for mathematics; ⁶ suits plain text.}
