What ᥝ means
A quick voiced glide with rounded lips, leading into a vowel.
If no vowel follows, the initial consonant carries an unwritten a sound.
The Lik Tai script was adapted for Tai languages. A 1407 Ming scroll is its oldest dated example. Likely roots lie in Moeng Maw (now Yunnan), in the 12th–14th centuries, with Burmese writing as a possible model. Reforms after 1954 and in 1988 changed Tai Le tone marks. A related Tai Ahom script appears in 16th-century Assam, on inscriptions and coins. These dates describe the wider tradition, not ᥝ.

1Why does ᥝ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
