What 𑿕 means
One grain of paddy, or rice still in its husk.
In the Tamil paddy measure, 360 nel make a cevitu; aazhaakku and uzhakku are larger units in the same chain.
A 2016 proposal from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu compares forms in inscriptions and printed editions. It cites volume 24, inscription 81, and repeated examples in volume 4 of a collection of South Indian inscriptions.
A technical sign for grain measurement in historical Tamil writing.
A different inscription or print shape may still mark nel; use the measurement context to distinguish it from another unit.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𑿕 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
