What sound does Tangsa Oc represent?
It represents /o/ with tone 3 in Mossang Tangsa.
Mossang, also called Muishvung, is one Tangsa variety. Tone is the pitch pattern that can distinguish words; tone 3 is mid-high and level or rising here. Other Tangsa varieties may realize tones differently. Tangsa varieties are spoken in northeast India and northwestern Myanmar, where related varieties are often grouped under the name Tangshang.
Lakhum Mossang began developing this alphabet in 1990 to write Tangsa, first teaching it by hand in small classes. Its letters are a modern design, unrelated by descent to older scripts. In 2019 the script was revised to accommodate other Tangsa varieties and community members formed a development committee. The committee promoted it publicly at the Pangsau Pass Festival in January 2020.

Questions people ask
2Does the c in Oc make a /c/ sound?
No. In the romanized spelling system Reverend Gam Win developed for Muishvung, c labels tone 3. 𖩱 is one Tangsa vowel letter, not /o/ followed by /c/.
Why does 𖩱 show as a box?
The app’s selected font may not include Tangsa glyphs. As of 2026, Noto Fonts publishes a dedicated font for this script, Noto Sans Tangsa.
