tangut component-137

Tangut Component 137

137/768

𘢈 is a component of Tangut writing, not a word to read by itself. Specialists use components like it to index and describe larger Tangut characters; 137 is a catalogue label, not a translation.

Text symbol

What 𘢈 means

It labels one part used to analyze larger Tangut characters.

The Tangut script was established around 1036 for Western Xia records, teaching, and translations of Chinese and Buddhist texts. Its earliest surviving example is an official document from 1072.

Tangut writing drew on Chinese writing but became a distinct state script. Unicode preserves component sets from Tangut dictionaries and publications for indexing and structural analysis, including Ideographic Description Sequences—notations showing how a character is built.
