What 𘢔 means
No; it is a structural piece, not a word.
Scholars use components to index and analyze Tangut characters; “149” is Unicode’s label, not a reading.
Unicode combines scholarly lists because no standard component set exists.
Why does Tangut writing resemble Chinese?
Its design echoes Chinese writing, but Tangut was not derived from it.
Tangut was the language of Western Xia; emperor Li Yuanhao ordered a script in 1036. It served state-building, with a Buddhist canon and a distinct identity from Song China as goals.
It also followed two neighboring Khitan scripts made about a century earlier. A Khara-khoto manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, preserves Chinese anecdotes translated into Tangut.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘢔 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
