What 𘢭 means
It marks a piece used to analyze Tangut characters.
A standalone component is not a complete Tangut word with its own pronunciation and translation. Tangut characters are built from components, which scholars use to describe and index them. Some components also serve as radicals: lookup headings that group dictionary entries.
The Tangut script was used to write the Tangut language during the Western Xia period (1038–1227). Extant dictionaries from that era ordered entries by sound; modern references often use component and stroke indexes, and their systems differ from book to book.
Why was Tangut Component-174 encoded?
To describe and index Tangut characters across references.
The Unicode Tangut Components set gathers elements from Tangut dictionaries in Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and English, as well as other publications. There is no single standard component system.
A component can also appear in an Ideographic Description Sequence (IDS), a short formula that shows a character’s parts and how they fit together. The number 174 is part of the component’s sequential Unicode name, not an ancient rank or a translation. The components are ordered by stroke count and stroke order.
Technical and scholarly: it marks an analysis or index of Tangut writing.
Treating it as a Tangut word gives it a reading the component does not carry.
