Tangut Component 331

𘥊 is a Tangut indexing component, not a complete word. A documented component list places it on the left of 𘇗, a Tangut character meaning “rope.”

What 𘥊 means

It helps scholars organize and analyze Tangut characters. The component’s role becomes clear in the complete character.

The Tangut script was created around 1036 under the Western Xia state for official, private, and religious texts; it remained in use until the 16th century. In September 2014, a proposal described seven additional components; a previously unknown woodblock text sold in November 2014 listed 𘥊 by position and type, with regular and cursive samples.

Specialist reference: a structural part of Tangut writing, not an everyday word.

If 𘥊 appears as a box, your current font lacks it; pre-Unicode Tangut fonts may map it to incompatible CJK code points.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𘥊 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
