Tangut component 483

483/768

𘧢 is a Tangut component: a structural part scholars use to index and describe whole Tangut characters, not a word with its own translation. The number 483 identifies an entry in a scholarly component system; it is not a pronunciation guide.

Text symbol

What 𘧢 means

It identifies a part scholars use to describe whole Tangut characters.

Tangut writing was created around 1036 CE for the Western Xia state and continued into the Yuan and Ming periods. Full characters appear in official, private, and religious texts; component analysis gives scholars a way to describe their structure.

Scholars used different component systems, so 483 is a system’s label, not a translation or reading. Unicode encodes Tangut components so dictionaries and character descriptions can refer to these parts.

Why does 𘧢 look different in fonts?

The reference drawing was corrected in Unicode 13.0, from seven strokes to six. This changes the reference shape, not the component’s role.
