Tangut Component 493

493/768

𘧬 is a Tangut component used to analyze the Xixia script, not a word with its own translation. Scholars use Tangut components to describe and look up whole characters; a font without Tangut support may show a box.

What 𘧬 means

It is a structural part in Tangut character analysis, not a word.

Tangut, or Xixia, script was used in Western Xia from the 11th century for official texts, Buddhist translations, books, manuscripts, and inscriptions.

Modern scholars use components to describe and index whole Tangut characters. Dictionaries use different component systems; some components can help explain a character’s sound or meaning, but 𘧬 has no fixed translation on its own.

A specialist reference character used in Tangut analysis and dictionaries.

Drift: A 2014 proposal called this code point “Tangut Radical-237.” The published component inventory names it by its component number.
