What 𘩡 means
It is a lookup part, not a word you can translate by itself. In the Tangut component list, 𘩡 is a structural piece used to index Tangut characters and describe how they are built. Its number does not give its sound or meaning.
The Tangut script, also called Xixia, began as a state project in 1036 under Li Yuanhao. It gave the Western Xia state a written language for Buddhist texts and a distinct identity from Song China. Tangut writing followed an earlier Khitan state script, used by another regional state, and drew on Chinese visual and character-building principles without deriving its characters from Chinese. A Khara-khoto manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, preserves Tangut translations of Chinese material. Communities continued using Tangut after the state fell in 1227; Buddhist dhāraṇī pillars dated 1502 show later use.
How do I type 𘩡?
Enter its Unicode value in an app with Tangut font support. Use your editor or operating system's Unicode input method for U+18A61; in HTML markup, use 𘩡. The receiving app also needs a Tangut-capable font. An emoji keyboard generally will not offer this text character.
Why does 𘩡 look like a box?
A box means the app cannot find a font that can draw Tangut. In a browser, a web font may fall back to the system font; if neither has Tangut glyphs, a missing-glyph box appears. Enabling a Tangut font such as Noto Serif Tangut can fix web display, while desktop apps may need the font installed locally.
Specialist: it signals Tangut script study, dictionary indexing, or Unicode work.
Do not read 𘩡 as a word with its own translation.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𘩡 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
