What 𘫺 means
The join marks a structural variant inside a larger character.
Tangut components help scholars describe characters and find them in dictionaries. Xixia writing was created in 1036 under Emperor Li Yuanhao for state-building and Buddhist scriptures. A surviving manuscript, probably from the 12th or early 13th century, translates a Chinese work into Tangut. Tangut writing drew on Chinese characters visually but did not derive from them.
A 2020 Unicode proposal says the joined form is used above another component; elsewhere, old copies can blur it with 𘡃.

1Why does 𘫺 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
