What 𗀌 means
As a Tangut word, 𗀌 means “vehicle.” A Tangut dictionary also uses it to represent the sound of Middle Chinese 闡 or 纏; Middle Chinese is an earlier historical form of Chinese. The dictionary records 𗀌 in compounds too, so read the whole word rather than applying this single glyph’s gloss to every compound. Chinese 車 is an etymological source for the Tangut character, not a replacement spelling.
The Tangut script was commissioned in 1036 by Li Yuanhao for the Western Xia state. It supported administration, a distinct Tangut written identity, and Buddhist texts. Scholarship cites an official document from 1072 as the earliest Tangut document transmitted to the present. By the 12th century, 𗀌 appears in the Sea of Writing and Homophones, a Tangut reference book organized by sounds and rhymes. Tangut writing also carried translations from Chinese and Tibetan, and continued after Western Xia fell.
Specialist and historical; it fits Tangut study, manuscript quotations, or discussion of an old text.
