What 𗁞 means
Use a Tangut-capable font; input and display are separate.
If 𗁞 appears as a box or blank, its text may still be intact; the app or font may lack a Tangut glyph. As of 2026, some mobile apps accept Tangut text without displaying it. Noto Serif Tangut and Tangut Yinchuan are options for desktop or web use.
What does 𗁞 mean?
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “careful.” The exact sense in a sentence depends on the surrounding Tangut words.
The formal Unicode name comes from its code point, so it identifies the encoded sign instead of translating it. Tangut, also called Xixia, was created under Western Xia’s first emperor about 1036 to write the Tangut language. It served official writing, and Buddhist and Chinese works were translated into it.
After the Mongol conquest, Tangut remained in use during the Yuan and Ming dynasties but became obsolete by the end of the Ming. Scholars rediscovered it in the late 19th century and largely deciphered it in the early 20th century. Its characters can resemble Chinese writing, but the two scripts are unrelated.
Specialist and archival: it points to Tangut texts, language study, or a deliberate font test.
