What 𗁨 means
A Tangut dictionary glosses it as “the common people.”
A modern Tangut dictionary gives this gloss for 𗁨. Tangut writing emerged around 1036 as a court-backed script for Western Xia, the Tangut-ruled state. It served government and cultural work, including Buddhist translations.
Tangut characters were modeled on Chinese writing, but the two scripts are different and cannot be read interchangeably. After Tangut stopped being a daily language, bilingual dictionaries and later scholarship made its texts readable again. The latest known Tangut inscription is dated 1502.
How do I type 𗁨?
Use a Tangut input method, a keyboard tool made for this script.
Options include stroke-code entry for ideographs and phonetic entry based on scholarly reconstructed readings. These are specialist input methods rather than ordinary keyboard keys.
Input and display are separate. If your font lacks Tangut coverage, the character may appear as a missing-glyph box; that means the font cannot draw it.
Historical and specialist; a bare 𗁨 needs explanation in ordinary chat.
Is 𗁨 Chinese? No. Tangut writing was modeled on Chinese characters, but 𗁨 belongs to the Tangut script.
