What 𗁯 means

The English translation is unsettled as of 2026. The 12th-century Tóngyīn (“Homophones”), a Tangut glossary, records it and the compound 𗁯𗳩.

Western Xia ruled what is now northwestern China. Its first emperor created the Tangut script around 1036 for official and cultural use; it also appears in private and Buddhist texts. Tangut writing continued under the Yuan and Ming after Western Xia fell.

1

Why does 𗁯 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
