What 𗂚 means

A banquet.

Li Fanwen’s Tangut-Chinese dictionary glosses it as “banquet”; it is a written word, not a picture.

The Tangut script began in 1036 for official writing, schools, and a Buddhist canon; that dates the system, not this glyph’s first surviving appearance.

Is 𗂚 Chinese or Tangut?

Tangut, a separate script for the Tangut language.

Its forms drew on Chinese writing; creating a separate script followed neighboring Khitan rulers’ example. Texts from the late twelfth and thirteenth centuries include Buddhist works, Chinese and Tibetan translations, classics, military texts, and literature; Tangut writing continued after Western Xia fell in 1227.

Historical Tangut vocabulary.

A Chinese-like shape does not make it Chinese.
