What 𗂙 means
It means “different,” “another,” or “separate.”
These are overlapping English glosses for one Tangut word, not three separate readings. A scholarly reconstruction writes its reading as pha¹.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It gave the Western Xia state a script for Tangut.
In 1036, ruler Li Yuanhao introduced the script, with Yeli Renrong associated with its creation and promulgation. People were taught to use it for state records, while Chinese classics were translated into Tangut.
Tangut writing continued in books, inscriptions, and Buddhist texts after the Western Xia dynasty fell. By the mid-12th century, the Sea of Characters, a Tangut rhyming dictionary, explained composite characters through their written components. Chinese models influenced its design; proposed Khitan influence remains debated.
Historical and specialist: it fits Tangut texts, manuscript study, or script research.
Without a Tangut-capable font, the recipient may see a box instead of the character.

Questions people ask
1Is 𗂙 Chinese?
No. It belongs to Tangut writing, a script for the Tangut language. Chinese models influenced Tangut character design, but that does not make this a Chinese character.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
