𗃖 is a Tangut (Xixia) character recorded in name writing for the Chinese surnames 穆 and 慕. If it appears alone, treat it as a fragment from a Tangut name or text, not a mood cue: context tells which surname is intended.

Text symbol

What 𗃖 means

It is recorded in Tangut as a way to write Chinese surnames.

Dictionaries associate 𗃖 with the historical Chinese surname characters 穆 and 慕. This is a writing correspondence across Tangut and Chinese: the three characters are not interchangeable.

Why was Tangut writing created?

Western Xia commissioned it to write Tangut and support the state.

Under ruler Li Yuanhao, the Western Xia court ordered the Tangut script in 1036 as part of building a state identity alongside Song China. It served government records and Buddhist texts.

One early surviving document is a 1072 official message to a military inspector. 𗃖 is listed in the 12th-century Homophones, a Tangut rhyme dictionary. Tangut writing continued into the Yuan and Ming dynasties; a known inscription dates to 1502, and the script was obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.

What does 𗃖 mean when someone sends it?

Treat it as a fragment from a Tangut name or text.

Sent alone, it cannot show which surname or source is meant. Ask for the surrounding name or the Tangut text it came from.

Historical and specialist; in casual chat, 𗃖 reads as a Tangut text sample or a name fragment.

Alone, it cannot tell you which surname the source intended.

Why does 𗃖 look different in different fonts?

It can. Fonts draw the same Tangut character in different styles, and a font without Tangut coverage may show a missing-glyph box. That changes the display, not the character's identity.

Does 𗃖 mean admire?

No. Here, 慕 is associated with 𗃖 as a historical Chinese surname character; that does not make the Chinese verb “admire” the translation of 𗃖.

Why is 𗃖 a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
