What 𗃭 means
It served Western Xia state writing and Buddhist translation work. 𗃭 means “death” in Tangut, the language used by the Western Xia state. Tangut script drew on Chinese writing and earlier Khitan scripts, but those writing systems are not mutually readable.
Tangut script was created in 1036 under Western Xia ruler Li Yuanhao. Its main practical purpose is thought to have been a Tangut translation of the Buddhist Canon, a collection of Buddhist scriptures, alongside state-building. Tangut writing also appears in Chinese translations, law codes, military works and literature. A manuscript from the ruins of Khara-Khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century; the last known Tangut inscription dates to 1502.
Outside Tangut or historical writing, treat 𗃭 as a deliberate reference; readers may not know its meaning.
A recipient may not recognize 𗃭 as “death” without Tangut context.

Questions people ask
2Is 𗃭 an emoji?
No. 𗃭 is a Tangut text character; its shape comes from a font, not emoji artwork.
Why does 𗃭 disappear in some fonts?
Some fonts lack Tangut coverage and show a missing-glyph box instead. A font with Tangut support is needed to display its intended shape.
