What 𗄼 means
𗄼 is a Tangut verb meaning “to come.” The Tangut script was used to write the Tangut language of the Western Xia state. Two Tangut dictionaries record it in the 12th century: Wénhǎi (“Sea of Writing”) and Tóngyīn (“Homophones”).
Ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the Tangut script in 1036 as part of building the Western Xia state. Tangut writing carried Buddhist scriptures, translations of Confucian classics, reference works, military writing, and literature.
Tangut developed in a region where Chinese writing and earlier Khitan scripts served as models. It uses Chinese-inspired structural principles but its own characters; that broader influence does not mean 𗄼 itself was copied from a Chinese or Khitan character.
What if someone sends 𗄼 alone?
Alone, it gives you a word, not a full sentence. It points to the Tangut verb “to come,” but one character cannot show how it fits into a longer sentence. Read it with the surrounding Tangut text.
Why does 𗄼 show as a box?
The active font usually lacks Tangut coverage. As of 2026, a webpage can load a Tangut-capable web font; other apps need an installed font that includes the script. Different Tangut fonts can draw the same character differently, so changed strokes do not by themselves mean the text character changed.
Historical and tied to the Tangut language; its verb reading depends on the surrounding text.
A box usually means the font lacks Tangut support.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗄼 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
