What 𗄽 means
“Hill” is the clearest short translation; context can change it.
A Tangut dictionary’s English index gives “hill.” In household registers, the same written form occurs in a kin term translated as “brother” or “maternal uncle”; personal names containing it have also been rendered with “mountain.” A Tangut specialist can use the surrounding writing to tell which reading fits, but the glyph alone does not choose an English word. For a particular occurrence, use its full phrase or an established translation.
Is 𗄽 Tangut or Chinese?
It belongs to Tangut, a separate script for the Tangut language.
The Tangut script was created under the first Western Xia emperor about 1036 CE to write Tangut and serve the state. It appears in the Sea of Writing, a Tangut dictionary, and in household registers. Tangut writing remained in use through the Yuan and Ming dynasties, becoming obsolete by the end of the Ming dynasty.
𘠐 is the left-side component identified within 𗄽 in Tangut structural data. It is part of how the character is built, not a translation of the whole character.
