What 𗄿 means
“Tangut Ideograph-1713F” is a number-based computer label, not a translation. A Tangut dictionary entry or the passage around it is needed to identify this character's reading and meaning.
Why was Tangut writing created?
It was ordered to write Tangut and establish a distinct state identity. Western Xia was a Tangut-led state in what is now northwestern China. Emperor Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036; it was also intended in part for a Tangut edition of the Buddhist canon.
Tangut was a separate script for a different language, though its forms took visual and structural inspiration from Chinese writing. Surviving texts include Buddhist and Confucian works, military treatises, encyclopedias, and literature. Tangut writing continued after the Mongol conquest of Western Xia in 1227, with an inscription dated 1502 showing its later use.
